Littondale package sewage treatment plant for Park Leisure

Formerly known as Hawkswick Cote Park, Littondale Holiday Homes has 152 pitches for static caravans in the Yorkshire Dales National Park and is surrounded by the well-known market towns of Skipton, Grassington, Pateley Bridge and Settle.

Park Leisure’s purchase was concluded in 2014 after lengthy negotiations around the adequacy of the wastewater treatment system, Park Leisure being advised by Hutchinson Environmental Solutions.

The wastewater treatment system comprised

• 2 primary settlement tanks and biological treatment zones
• 2 gravel beds
• 1 combined settlement pond and reed bed

all discharging to the river Skirfare and then the river Wharf. The system was failing because of

• inadequate knowledge of biological wastewater treatment processes
• lack of maintenance
• lack of adequate capacity

Wastewater flows and loads were reassessed to British Water's Code of Practice in light of the park’s past organic growth without due consideration of the wastewater treatment system’s capacity and effectiveness.

The environmental permit was reviewed and re-issued by the Environment Agency.

A WPL International “HiPAF” package sewage treatment plant was designed, supplied and installed by Hutchinson Environmental Solutions to ensure compliance with the revised Environment Agency treated effluent quality standards.
